Known locally as ‘dock’, this large fern is epiphytic.

That means it is not connected to the soil through roots, but rather derives its nutrients from the air, rain and debris that falls into the centre.

You may recognise them as a 'Birds-nest' or 'Crows-nest' ferns, as they are called in Australia.

Scientific name

Asplenium australasicum
