This highly endangered shrub typically reaches 1-3 metres tall.

It generally grows in lightly shaded areas on coastal cliffs, but it has also been grown successfully in the botanic garden and in the national park.

Its whorled elongate leaves make this an attractive and distinctive uniquely Norfolk plant.
