Crashing wave.

Norfolk Island is a very safe place to visit. There are no snakes on the island, and most of our spiders are harmless (even the big ones).

To make sure your adventure in the national park is safe and enjoyable, we recommend following these simple guidelines.

Safe walking

  • Wear sturdy footwear at all times
  • Make sure you carry plenty of water
  • Wear sunscreen and a hat
  • Follow all directions from park rangers – they are for your safety
  • Stay on marked tracks and in designated visitor areas
  • Be aware of your own limitations
  • Supervise children at all times
  • Obey all safety directions, notices and warning signs
  • Take extra care after rain as tracks may become slippery
  • Stay away from cliff edges
  • Do not use mountain bikes, cars, quad-bikes or motorbikes on walking tracks.

Caring for our park

  • Stay on the track to avoid damaging plants or causing erosion
  • All plants, animals, timber and soil are protected in the park. Please do not disturb or remove anything
  • Please take your rubbish with you when you leave the park
  • Don’t feed the wildlife or leave any food scraps behind. Introduced foods can make native animals sick while attracting rodents and other pests.
